This Italian region pays you up to 100.000 Eur to move there
If you’ve ever dreamt of moving to Italy, this might be the extra sign you’ve been waiting for. This dreamy region has a program to attract people in love with the mountains, and not only that.
We spent 3 days exploring a small part of the Trento region this past summer, and fell in love with it. In the Dolomites, we found the perfect mix of German order and Italian cuisine and La Dolce Vita.
If you’re intrigued as much as we were, here’s everything to know about the Trentio “Contribution for private property revitalization of areas at risk of abandonment“. Because, of course, there’s a catch.

How to obtain 100.000 EUR for moving to the Dolomites, Italy
Where is Trentino?
First things first, you would want to know where the region is located in Italy, right?
Trentino is a mountainous region located in the far north of Italy, bordering Austria to the north, the Veneto and Lombardy regions to the east and west, respectively.
It is situated in the Italian Alps, stretching from the southern tip of Lake Garda to the Dolomite mountain range.
Trentino is the southern of the two autonomous provinces that make up the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region.
What is the program about?
The Autonomous Province of Trento has announced a bold and innovative measure to combat the depopulation of small mountain towns: non-repayable grants of up to €100,000 for those who decide to purchase and renovate a home in one of the 33 selected municipalities.
Even though the program started at the beginning of 2025, the new deadline will run from 9.00 am on November 14, 2025, to 12.00 pm on December 31, 2025.
How do you qualify?
This initiative helps people who are taking back or acquiring ownership of a property – either one they already own or will officially own within six months of applying.
The idea is to bring these places back to life by turning them into a primary home or renting them out at a reasonable rate.
To qualify, the property must be used in one of those ways for at least ten years after the renovation work is completed.
What do you actually get?
Those who qualify for the program can get:
- Up to €80,000 for renovation work (equal to 40% of the eligible expenditure in historic centers and 35% in other areas, up to a maximum of €200,000).
- Up to €20,000 for the purchase of the property, if it is not already owned.
It is also worth knowing that the initiative cannot be combined with other contributions for the same expenses, in compliance with the provisions regarding the cumulation of funding at the EU level.
Who can apply?
This grant is open to anyone planning to renovate a property they already own—or will officially own within 6 months of applying.
To qualify, you’ll need to use the renovated property as your main home or rent it out at a reasonable rate within a year after the work is finished.
You’ll also need to keep it that way for at least ten years after the renovation is complete.
Moreover, if the housing unit receiving the grant is used for primary residential purposes, the applicant must not be a resident of the administrative municipality where the property is located. However, this requirement does not apply if the applicant is under 45 years of age at the time of application submission.
Important: To participate, you must have already identified the property you wish to work on.
