Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget
The Amalfi Coast might be one of Italy’s most exclusive and expensive destinations. However, that doesn’t mean you cannot plan an escape on a budget, whether going for your honeymoon or simply looking for a memorable vacation. I’ve gathered a list of affordable hotels you can choose from and villages you should consider when you don’t know where to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget.
Because the region is not only Positano, you can pay much less by staying in less popular places.
Furthermore, when you decide to skip the peak season, prices will become more reasonable, and you can choose a nice place to stay.
Another option is to look for apartment-style accommodations and skip hotels. Apartments have kitchens, and you can save money on food when you choose to have breakfast or dinner there.

Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget
While many people might only consider Positano, Amalfi, or even Sorrento when considering where to stay on the Amalfi Coast, plenty of other smaller villages have affordable accommodation options.
Here are a few of my favorite smaller towns on the Amalfi Coast, why I chose them, and a few charming places to visit.
PRAIANO
Praiano is set less than 8 kilometers away from Positano, offering a similarly stunning location, villas, and apartments with breathtaking views for less.
By choosing to stay there, you can spend your days in Positano, be close to boat departures when you want to go to the islands, and be close to the Fiordo di Furore.

Here are a few of my favorite options for apartments or hotels in Praiano:
As I write this post, I’m looking for accommodation, and this villa with apartments has immediately caught my attention. That terrace is stunning, and I could imagine myself working or simply enjoying strong Italian coffee with that view.
Just a 1-minute walk from the beach and close to a bus stop, you cannot get a better location than this.
Guests enjoyed staying in this less popular village because they could avoid the crowds.

Malú Apartments – Infinity sea view
A big apartment with three bedrooms is the perfect choice when traveling with your family or a larger group of friends. The interior staircase with colorful mosaic is picture-perfect, while the terrace is where you will spend most of your time.
Another point of interest is the window next to the bathtub, from which you can enjoy the immense blue while relaxing.
The apartment has air conditioning, and the hotel has a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious local dishes.

VICO EQUENSE
This small village, set by the sea and minutes away by train from Sorrento, offers accommodation at far lower rates than its more famous neighbor.
A train ticket to Sorrento costs only a few cents and will get to your town in less than 5 minutes. Forget about the crowds and live the perfect Italian vacation with the locals.

I have also chosen a few of my favorite options in the small town, and here they are:
A bit further away from the beach, this place will charm you with its stunning views, which make up for the 20-minute walk. You will want to take that walk after each breakfast with all the delicious Italian sweets.
Guests loved the swimming pool, but the hosts also made them feel at home!

An unexpected surprise, this villa charms its guests with its location close to public transportation, a big garden, and charming architecture.
Rooms are recently reconated and offer all the comfort you might need on a shorter or longer vacation.

AGEROLA
Agerola has accommodation options with incredible views. However, it is not easily accessible, and you might need to rent a car. The village is tucked on the mountaintop, and the distance between Agerola and Positano is only 28 kilometers. You should expect to spend around one hour on the road.
Amalfi Coast cheap hotels for your dream vacation
When looking for cheap or affordable hotels on the Amalfi Coast, there are certain areas to avoid and certain villages to consider.
Even though Positano is the most popular destination, chances are you won’t find many cheap hotels there. That said, check out my comprehensive guide for where to stay in Positano, which includes a few budget options.
You might not get to stay in a hotel, but you will still be in one of the most beautiful places in Italy and worldwide.
On the other hand, Sorrento is in a perfect location for visiting the whole coast and is close to the lovely islands of Capri and Ischia or historical sites such as the Herculaneum or Pompei.
Here are a few other affordable hotels worth checking out in places like Vietri, Cetara, Scala, or even Maiori.
Tenuta Novecento Bioagriturismo
Everything about this place is fantastic, from its location less than 3 km away from the famous Fiordo del Furore to the breathtaking garden views and the area’s peacefulness.
Villa Fanella
Set between Sorrento and Positano, with a terrace with sunset views, this is a private apartment. You might indeed need a car to stay here, but it will all be worth it because you will be 10 kilometers away from the center of Positano and 15 minutes from Sorrento.
Una Volta
Rooms with authentically designed bathtubs by the windows also provide delicious breakfast. The hotel is 2.5 kilometers from Marina di Vietri Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the Amalfi Coast.
If you rent a car, you can park free at the hotel, so you can travel around without having to worry about finding a parking space or paying for it.
Casa Clotide
Set in Maiori, above the central area of the city, you can see the sea from the balcony and both bedrooms. You will have access to a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine and fridge.
Guests appreciated the warm welcome by the host, who provided cold lemonade and fresh fruit. They also appreciated that the apartment was close to a supermarket and 7 minutes away from the beach.
Casa Wanda
A simple accommodation option offering beautiful views and incredible services. You’ll have a supermarket right around the corner and the beach only a short walk away.
You will have plenty of space here and a private kitchen, making it the perfect choice for when you plan on staying for at least a few days or even a week.
Villa Anna
A remote spacious 3-bedroom hillside villa with an outdoor swimming pool and a terrace with a fantastic view.
Apart from the outdoor hot tub, the table set on the terrace is ideal for memorable meals.
Sopra il limoneto, Cetara
Above the lemon grove – the literal translation of this accommodation place in Cetara. And that’s because you can admire beautiful lemon groves (and olive trees) and the deep blue sea from the garden.
When staying here, you’ll have access to an outdoor swimming pool, but this is also a great place for those traveling with kids because there is also a playground.
It might not be so easy to find this place since it is tucked away on the hilltop, but you won’t regret it.
Villa Paradise Resort, Agerola
A classic Italian accommodation option tucked away with a breathtaking view. You can relax on the terrace or your private balcony overlooking the Amalfi Coast.
It is a place with exceptional guest reviews that will set you close to most of the important attractions on the coastline.
Now that you know where to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget, I suggest you start packing.
