If you already read my post describing a 7-day Amalfi Coast itinerary (if not, click here), spending at least one night in Positano is probably on your bucket list. To make the best choice, however, you need to know where to stay in Positano.
For those who are not familiar with the town of Positano, let me put it this way: If the Amalfi Coast is the Queen of Italy, Positano is the crown. It is the favorite holiday spot for those seeking a premium experience amidst a stunning landscape.
Whether you are on a honeymoon, vacationing with your family, or planning to stay on the Amalfi Coast on a budget, this comprehensive guide has something for everyone.

Luxury hotels for special occasions
When you come here for a honeymoon or a wedding anniversary, you’ll probably want to treat yourself to the best Amalfi has to offer. If so, you are in luck, for Positano boasts some of the most luxurious hotels in Italy.
Don’t expect hotels with hundreds of rooms, though. The places here are boutique—stylish, chic, and more intimate. In other words, they are perfect for what should be the best vacation of your life.
Here are my top picks for luxury hotels in Positano.
Le Sirenuse
It is one of the iconic places in Positano and maybe the most photogenic as well.
You’ll be only steps away from the heart of the town and minutes from the beach. Best of all, every room has a private balcony, so you can enjoy the prized view at your leisure.
When you yearn for a bit of pampering, enjoy the exclusive infinity pool and the spa. And make sure to keep yourself in shape at the gym.
The hotel bar is one of the best on the Amalfi Coast. Naturally, you’ll be able to enjoy the oyster bar and the Michelin-starred restaurant.
While we couldn’t afford it for our honeymoon, we are considering it for our 10-year wedding anniversary. There are only a few years to go, so start saving, Alex! 🙂

Il San Pietro di Positano
Although this hotel is located a bit outside of Positano, it’s well worth considering if you’re looking for luxury.
It is a beautiful 5-star hotel with a vibrant and luxurious interior design.
It has a private beach, so you won’t have to worry about the throng of tourists invading Positano every year.
Have I mentioned the state-of-the-art spa and an outdoor pool?
Additionally, you’ll be dining in style at a Michelin-star restaurant with a terrace overlooking the colorful houses and the sea.
The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service for its guests, so you shouldn’t worry about the remote location; in fact, it is an advantage to be away from the mass of other visitors.

Hotel Villa Franca
Set on the hilltop above the main beach of Positano, this hotel boasts incredible views. Only 15 minutes away from the city center and the beach, it is close to the action yet in a tranquil setting.
Whether you prefer to relax in the rooftop pool, unwind at the spa, or enjoy a glass of good Italian wine at the bar, Hotel Villa Franca is the place for you.

Villa Boheme Exclusive Luxury Suites
Choose this place if you are looking for an authentic Italian experience, yet a more luxurious one! This family-run hotel has been furnished with such good taste that you won’t want to leave.
All rooms have a terrace from which you can admire the impressive views of the surroundings. According to many guests, this might be one of the best locations in Positano.
Since these are apartment-style accommodations, you will also have a small kitchenette.

Mid-range hotels in Positano
Luckily, you don’t need to break the bank to stay in Positano. Luxury is great, but let’s reserve it for special occasions so we can savor it more. For regular vacations, I suggest mid-range accommodations.
When you travel outside of peak season (March-April or September-October), you might be able to strike the best balance between quality and price.
We did this a few times, and it was absolutely fantastic! We stayed in cool places at affordable prices, the weather was mild, and we enjoyed all that the Amalfi Coast has to offer without the suffocating crowds squeezing out the joy of it.
Fret not! If you book in advance (I mean, several months in advance), you can find good deals also during summer.
Alcione Residence
A family-run hotel with a great location and great views.
The rooms are nice and equipped with AC. Don’t laugh—AC is less common in Western Europe than in the USA because older buildings have thick walls. Still, global warming makes things less…cool:).
Make sure to book way in advance; there are only a few rooms.

Villa Palumbo B&B
Enjoy delicious breakfast every morning served directly on your room’s balcony. I can imagine worse ways to start a day.
The beach is 10 minutes away, and the area hosts many good restaurants.
It is worth noting that the place is set up on a hill. Thus, it offers great vistas but also some exercise.

Hotel Villa Delle Palme in Positano
The hotel is bright and cheerful, with authentic Italian interiors and stunning balconies or terraces. It has only 9 rooms available, which makes it cozy but also hard to book. Plan ahead and book in advance.
The beach and the center of Positano are a bit further away, but the bus stop is just on your doorstep when you don’t feel like walking.
All rooms have AC, and you can enjoy a delicious breakfast with a view.
If you come by car, please note that parking spaces are available next to the hotel (that’s a huge plus on the Amalfi Coast), but you should expect to pay extra.

Positano Holiday House
I would stay here for the view, if nothing else.
It is a spacious apartment with 2 rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a washing machine. Positano Holiday House is good for both shorter and longer stays.

Where to stay in Positano on a budget
Unfortunately, Positano is not known for its budget-friendly price tags.
If you are looking for more value for less money, be open to staying outside of Positano, in some of the less popular villages of the Amalfi Coast.
Places like Vietri, Cetara, and even Maiori would have great budget apartments and hotels.
Once, we stayed for a month in Cava de’Tirreni for the price of a few nights in Positano. However, you need a car for the daily commute to the Amalfi Coast attractions.
Read my Amalfi Coast on a budget guide for more tips. I’ve included a great list of options and useful information for a budget-friendly trip to the Amalfi Coast.
Where to stay in Positano for families
Families or larger groups of friends might want to book an entire house for their privacy and comfort. If you are looking for such a place, here are a few choices.
Villa Cocles a Magical Honeymoon
I know it has “honeymoon” in its name, but the place is way too large for a loving couple. The villa has 3 bedrooms, so bring your friends along.
Set a few minutes away from the beach, you will have access to a kitchen and a washing machine. It is the perfect setup to test a fresh marriage:))
Joke aside, it is a great place for a larger group. You can gather for dinner on the nice terrace or simply relax and spend some quality time together.

Villa Graziella a Piece of Paradise
If you come with a larger group (~8 people), this villa with 4 bedrooms, an outdoor swimming pool, and a terrace might be just right for you.
The garden hosts a real oven (the one that burns wood), so you can try your pizza-making skills.
Don’t worry about parking, there is a dedicated space at the location.

Villa Trara
It is a 3-bedroom villa with a nice balcony, ideal for a trip with family or friends.

Are you planning a party with your friends? Or are you traveling with the extended family?
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
Villa dei Fisici
An elegant villa where you can experience history and truly authentic Italian hospitality.
The villa’s 7 artistically decorated bedrooms can accommodate up to 16 adults and 3 children. The bright balconies offer breathtaking views over Positano.
Have I mentioned the garden and outdoor swimming pool? Or the terrace bar? Well, check it out yourself.

Divina Costiera
This might not be right in Positano, but it is close enough.
Guests lauded the hosts, who made them feel at home, and also the delicious food served at every meal throughout the day.
All rooms overlook the garden and have AC.

Stay in a cabin on the Amalfi Coast
Tenuta Novecento Bioagriturismo
Check out this charming cottage, perched on the hills of Agerola, only a few kilometers away from Positano and the sea. Set in the middle of a generous garden with vineyards and different kinds of trees, it will make you feel remote yet close to the hectic Positano.
The setting is great for those who want to explore the whole Amalfi Coast.
Also, you won’t have to worry about finding a parking space.
